DARK VS. BRIGHT: FINDING YOUR SONIC SIGNATURE

The Science of Frequencies and Series Selection

The most common question at our foundry is: "Should I go dark or bright?" Understanding how our B20 alloy responds to different finishes and hammering techniques is the key to defining your sound on stage.

01. THE DARK SIDE: COMPLEX & SMOKY

Dark cymbals are characterized by lower fundamental pitches and complex overtones. They sit "under" the mix, providing a rich texture without overpowering vocals or guitars.

Featured Series: SANDED RAW PHOKAIA
  • Raw & Sanded: Unlathed or specialized finishes that control vibrations for an earthy, "trashy" response.
  • Phokaia: Precision hand-hammering that delivers a vintage, dark warmth with controlled sustain.
  • Best For: Jazz, Indie, Studio Recording, and intimate Acoustic settings.

02. THE BRIGHT SIDE: CUTTING & SHIMMERING

Bright cymbals have a high-pitched, "glassy" attack. Designed for projection, they are engineered to cut through loud environments with high-frequency clarity.

Featured Series: SCRAPE ARES PRESTIGE
  • Prestige & Ares: Modern lathing and brilliant finishes that maximize high-frequency shimmer and projection.
  • Scrape: Unique textured surfaces that provide a fast, explosive attack with a shimmering wash.
  • Best For: Rock, Metal, Pop, and Large Outdoor Stages.

PRO TIP: THE HYBRID SETUP

Modern professionals rarely stick to just one side. Mixing a Raw hi-hat with a Prestige crash allows for ultimate control and explosive accents. Don't be afraid to cross-breed your setup.
